Purchase and Download:Â Selbu Hals on Ravelry
This pattern produces a cowl that can be worn either wrapped double around the neck for added warmth, or worn without wrapping as an infinity scarf. The charted colorwork design for this cowl was inspired by the vest fabric on the woman’s bunad from Selbu, Norway; although, it does not intend to replicate it in a literal fashion.
Traditional rendering of this pattern would use red and black yarn, but the design would work equally well if modified by using two strands of a single color whereby the MC is interpreted as a knit stitch and CC a purl stitch to create a more subtle, textured version of the design.
